I’ll kick this off by stating the obvious…camming isn’t always an easy job, even though many people don’t consider a cam modeling gig an actual job at all! Well, I promise you, working as a webcam model is definitely a job and one that you have to do well to make decent money at if you hustle.

The question I get from a lot of girls looking at starting their cam career is, “How do I successfully do cam shows?” I mean, that’s pretty much your bread and butter and if you’re not doing it right, you’re not going to make bank. But, what is right?

How to Get Started-Set Up Your Equipment

Since camming is definitely a business (your business, isn’t that amazing?), you need the right equipment before you can even think about getting started. Before you can have world-class cam shows, you need a computer or laptop with high-speed broadband. The absolute minimum I would recommend would be 1.5Mbs, otherwise, your shows are going to lag, and clients are going to get cranky and leave.

The other obvious piece of equipment you need is a pretty good webcam. Don’t skimp here. In fact, if you want to up your game, get a few webcams that will show you from different angles and even better, get cams with remote control capability.

The more your clients can see and the more control you have of your best angles, the better your shows and the more moolah you’re going to make.

Figure Out Those Lighting and Camera Settings

What’s the most important thing? Well, it just may be cam girl lighting. Once you have your webcam and computer ready, you need to play around with settings and lighting.

Lighting is as important for a webcam model as a traditional fashion model. When you’re on the cam, you want to look your best and trust me, lighting can highlight your assets and hide those things you’re not as enthused with about your body.

Practice recording yourself and play around with color saturation, so you don’t look washed out. This is easily adjusted on your computer. And definitely avoid using natural daylight or direct artificial light-both make you either look too shadowed or too bright.

Choose Your Cam Site

This step is a little trickier, especially because there are so many cam sites out there. There are many things to consider when you choose a site, including:

Pay-per-minute vs. Tips-based
- Tips-based sites are a great way to get your feet wet in the camming world, but you’re totally dependent on people showing up when you’re there. Pay-per-minute sites are typically for girls with a following of steady clients that pretty much arrange their schedules around the shows.
Larger established site vs. Smaller, lesser-known site
- Big sites have a ton of girls and a ton of competition. Smaller sites just don’t always have the traffic. You want to find a site that has a nice balance.
Consider fetish work
- Girls that have a particular marketable fetish often have an easier time finding a place for themselves on the bigger sites. Men like women that aren’t afraid to be a little kinky, so definitely give it some consideration.

Once you have decided on a cam site, you’ll want to set up your profile. You want to stand out from the crowd, and this is where you’ll do that.

Make sure that you complete the profile in full and make it fun and flirty, choose an easy to remember username, and seriously consider having pro pictures taken of yourself to upload.

This is your introduction to your potential clients, and you want to lure them in, so they’ll watch your shows and hopefully get hooked on you!

Finally, I always make sure to list the things I won’t do on my cam shows in my profile. Look, you’re going to get some really weird guys.

These guys are totally going to want you to do things you’re not comfortable with, so its best to head that off at the pass as much as you can. Make sure you’re direct and never feel badly if you don’t feel comfortable doing something on your show.

It’s Showtime!

Now that you’ve got all your ducks in a line, it’s time for that cam show to get rolling. You’re going to be nervous; we all are during our first few shows.

This is totally normal and before long, you’re going to be a pro that doesn’t get those nervous butterflies anymore, and instead, you’re going to be addicted to the accolades you’re going to get.

The best way to get yourself acclimated to being sexy on camera is to adopt a persona that isn’t “you”. I mentally give myself a sexy name and alter-ego that just makes men melt. Adopt a naughty version of yourself and you’ll be amazed how it increases your on-screen confidence.

I also like to get props, such as sex toys, sexy outfits, and lingerie, experiment with wigs, glasses, and makeup, and as much as I hate to say this, I make sure that my work area is clean, neat, and looks inviting.

Do not try to do your shows in a dirty room with clothes everywhere and looking like you’re a slob. No guy is turned on by that; remember, they’re paying for a fantasy and you need to keep that fantasy going.

Here are some other “Do’s” I would recommend when you’re doing your cam shows:

Smile and stay positive
- Yes, this seems simple, but many girls go into this so nervous that they don’t remember to smile. More smiles equal more tips/pay, trust me on this one. And unless your fetish work/persona involves being stern, mean, or dominant, keep an upbeat attitude as well.
Make a plan
- Just like any other job, camming requires some preparation for your shows. This includes what things you’ll do (or not do), what toys you have available, and what things you’ll offer (games, high tip prizes, videos, photos). Disorganized shows don’t get repeat clients.
Move around
- Sitting like a brick is not a turn on. Guys want to see a real woman and they want to see your body. Touch yourself, giggle, flip your hair, put those boobs into their faces. Do whatever works!
Wear what you’re comfortable in
- If you’re not comfortable in super slutty looking clothing, don’t wear it. Your clients will pick up on that. Consider dressing for the persona you’ve created, like a tomboy would wear sports jerseys and knee-high socks, or if you’re nerdy, wear fandom clothes and nerd glasses. Experiment with what works for you.
Encourage your clients to ask for what they want
- Some guys are shy and need to be drawn out of their shells so its great to make yourself feel approachable. Encourage them to ask you to do things.
Have water ready
- You’re going to be talking A LOT. You’re going to get super thirsty. Having water, or whatever beverage you enjoy, on hand, will make that a much easier thing to deal with and you won’t have to get up and leave your show, which is a huge tip killer.

Now that you’ve gotten the “Do’s,” here are some “Don’ts” for cam shows.

Don’t overdo it with drinking on camera
- Girlfriend, a drunk cam show is a no-no. Yes, you’ll feel more relaxed and you may do more in a show, but you might also do things you’re not ok with or you might blackout. Definitely avoid too much of the alcohol.
Don’t be afraid to say no
- While I recommend encouraging men to ask you for what they’d like to see done, I do this with an asterisk. Don’t feel like you have to do things you aren’t comfortable doing and if someone gets abusive, block them.
Don’t overpromise
- If you start promising men that you’ll do this, that, and the other and something happens that makes it impossible for you to accomplish what you’ve promised, you’re underdelivering and I promise you that you’ll lose clients. Only promise things you can actually get done.
Don’t move too fast
- If you are having a show and you do everything you’re asked without a little buildup, do you think men will get excited and stick around, which means you’ll earn more money? The answer is, “No”. If men are given everything they want right away, they leave. There is no incentive to stick around. Go slow, but not too slow. Guys that are bored will leave too.

Don’t Forget…

Every cam girl started somewhere, and nobody knew everything from the start. There is a definite learning curve that every single cam model has to go through and you’re going to make mistakes. However, if you remain patient, respectful, and you continue to improve yourself and your shows, there is no doubt that you’ll become a successful cam model.

I’ll let you know right now that it can be a struggle to succeed as a non-nude model, but it’s most definitely possible. As I’ve mentioned in previous articles, the most important thing is that you’re comfortable with what you’re doing. If you’re doing something that you’re not comfortable with or that you just can’t get yourself into, it’s gonna show in your performance. And there’s nothing that’ll turn a guy off more than watching you do anything on cam when it’s obvious you aren’t actually enjoying it.

It’s definitely harder to become a successful non-nude model than it is a nude model. Although many guys truly enjoy chatting and interacting with you as a person, most also enjoy it even more when you’re naked. 😛 But although you may struggle at the beginning of your career, things will start to get much easier for you as you go on. You’ll start to develop relationships with your fans. You’ll start to notice regulars coming into your room every day to hang out with you. These are really the people that will help you succeed as a non-nude model. Some days, especially when you’re first starting out, you might not have a lot of fans in your room. This can be frustrating when you see a nude model with hundreds of guys watching her. But you have to stay positive. Don’t give into the pressure and do something that you aren’t comfortable with. Stand up for your morals and for what you believe in. If you’re truly enjoying what you’re doing, the fans will come and turn into regulars for you.

Many models who decide to remain non-nude, take on some kind of niche. One of the most popular ones right now is femdom. This is basically where you, as a female, take on a dominant role. If you decide to cam with a male partner, there’s some things that you’ll need to work out before you even get started. Some sites only allow female models, so you’ll need to find a site that works best for you and your partner that allows males to cam. Finding a site to cam on is the easy part. There are some legal things that both you and your partner should discuss and take care of before you do your first shows together. Even if you’re gonna be camming with a boyfriend, husband, or someone else that you really trust, it’s still very important to cover anything that could come up and make sure you both are protected. Also, just figuring out what you’re gonna do on cam can really take some time to figure out.

As I said, there are some cam sites out there that only allow female models. If you’re gonna be camming with a male partner, one of the most popular sites is Chaturbate. They’re one of the highest ranked cam sites and get a ton of traffic every day. Most couples seem to do the best on the site, even sometimes exceeding solo female cam models. Another good site for couples is Streamate. Chaturbate and Streamate are very different cam sites, but they both allow male/female couples to cam together. When you first start camming, I’d suggest trying out both sites to see the style of cam site that you guys prefer. Chaturbate is a site that allows public shows. This means that you’ll likely set a goal and then perform your show in public for everyone to watch once the goal is met. On Streamate, you can’t show nudity in public chat. So you’ll raise money in advance and then be taken into a private room where only those who tipped into your show can actually watch. Both have their pros and cons, so it’s ultimately up to you.

Discussing all the boring legal stuff is a must do before you start camming with a partner. It’s important to protect yourself just in case something does end up happening and you guys get into an argument about it. You should make sure you have a copy of each other’s ID’s, along with a photo of them holding their ID next to their face. You should also discuss and put into writing who owns the content from your shows or videos and what you each can do with that content. If you start to sell it on a clip site without your partner’s permission, that could turn into a really big problem for you guys in the future, especially if you haven’t put into writing how much each person gets from each sale. Speaking of how much each person gets, that’s something else that should be put into writing before you guys jump on cam together. Are you going to be splitting your earnings equally, whose name is the camming account going to be under, who owns the content and what can they do with it, when will you both get paid? All very important things to consider. Obviously whoever puts their name on the camming account is gonna be getting the check/payment sent to them. So do you plan on paying your partner right after your shows or waiting until you get paid and then splitting it? How do you plan on paying the other person: check, cash, Payoneer, etc.?

The two of you should also discuss what exactly you’ll be doing in your cam shows. Be open with your partner. Let them know your limits and things that you aren’t comfortable doing. And be sure that they let you know the same things. You’re gonna be working very closely with this person, so you guys need to be open about your feelings and thoughts when it comes to performing together. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, never do something you’re uncomfortable with. Don’t let your partner pressure you into doing something that you don’t want to. It’s very important that you make it very clear what you don’t want to do, that way there won’t be any misunderstandings while on cam. Could you imagine how awkward that could be? 😛

One struggle that you’ll likely come across when you first start camming is getting fans to come back time and time again. But once you master how to do this, you’ll definitely notice an increase in the amount of sales that you make, and it’ll make your work day go by much faster. Building a relationship with your fans is very important. Of course you’ll have plenty of guys who just pop in your cam room for a quickie, but you’ll also have lots of guys who want to build an actual relationship with you and really get to know you. These guys are called regulars because they regularly visit your cam room and spend time in there with you. So how do you actually get guys to come back and want to see you every time you’re on cam? I’ll tell you!

One of the easiest things you can do to get regulars is be yourself! Show your fun side while on cam and just genuinely have a good time. If you truly enjoy what you’re doing, it’ll show to your fans. Happiness, laughter, and smiles are most definitely contagious! If you have a negative attitude while on cam, are crying all the time, or are just giving off a vibe that you’re not into what you’re doing, no one’s gonna wanna stay in or come back to a room like that. There’s always gonna be days when you maybe aren’t in the best mood, but you need to work through that if you’re gonna get on cam. Your bad attitude one day might make it so you miss out on a really awesome fan who would have became one of your regulars had he first seen you on a good day.

Another thing that you need to do is be entertaining. Don’t just sit there and blankly stare into the camera. It’s crucial to keep your fans interested. Get up and move around a little bit. Dance, tease, flirt. Any kind of movement will keep your fans interested as opposed to a model who’s just sitting there looking bored. Talking is another very important thing to continually do while you’re on cam. Engage in conversation with your fans. Say hi when someone new enters the room instead of waiting for them to say something to you first. Even if no one’s really talking to you, you can still talk. Like I said before, just doing something whether it be getting up and moving around or just talking is so much more interesting then someone who’s not doing anything.

If you start to notice a fan that’s coming into your room pretty often, be sure to take notes on them. Many cam sites allow you to type notes in for each user. These notes are only visible by you. This is a really good tool for remembering your fans name, what they’re into, or just little things about them that they told you. If someone is investing a lot of time and/or money into you, you’ll kind of seem like a snob if you continually have to ask them what their name is. 😛 Make your regulars feel special. Give them a big smile and greet them by their name when you notice them pop into your cam room. Maybe even give them a follow back on social media. These are all just little things that you can be doing to make sure your fans become regulars, and stay regulars.

With pretty much all camming software, you can pull up the camera feed to watch yourself on your computer screen without actually broadcasting anything live on the internet. Date Raffle Do’s and Don’ts

A popular trend recently among cam models is holding a date raffle. A date raffle can take on two different forms: an in person date where your fan actually gets to meet you and hang out with you, or a date over Skype or another camming platform. Your fans get really excited about raffles like this. Even if it’s just a Skype date raffle, it’s still a personal one-on-one hangout session with you. Sometimes these don’t even get sexual. They might just involve eating or watching a movie together while chatting with one another. If you decide to hold a date raffle, whether it be a real date or one over Skype, there are definitely some precautions you should take.

As with any raffle that you hold, you need to be smart and plan every little detail out in advance. So before you even announce your raffle, make a list that includes the prize(s) that you’re offering, how much each entry will cost, when the deadline to enter is, when and how you’ll be drawing the winner(s), what the winner(s) should expect on the date, and any other details that you can think of. Nothing is too small to include. Sometimes fans will try to find a loophole or take advantage of you if you aren’t clear from the start about your raffle.

If you’re new to camming, it’s probably best not to hold a raffle like this. Wait until you have a decent following. Some models make the mistake of holding raffles with huge prizes before they’ve really established a following. They think that bigger prizes will help them raise more money. But this isn’t always the case. It can be a big disappointment if you’re offering a large prize and end up not getting a lot of entries. You may be stuck losing money in the end. Or you may need to cancel the raffle, which is disappointing to everyone who entered. You may lose the trust of your fans if you cancel a raffle.

Just to protect yourself, a good clause to put in your raffle rules is that it’ll only happen if you sell a certain amount of entries. When the deadline hits, if you haven’t raised enough, you can choose to extend it if you’re close to your goal or offer consolation prizes. In the case of consolation prizes, I personally think that every single person who entered should at least get something. This way no one feels like it was a waste of their money. And you should still have big prizes for the winner(s). But like I said earlier, if you don’t have a big following, it’s probably best not to hold a contest like this in the first place. You’re only setting yourself up to fail.

If you’re doing an in person date raffle, one thing to consider is doing it with another model. You can both sell individual entries into your raffle, both pick your own winner, then do a double date kind of thing. It’s just more safe that way, and it can be a lot more fun. Your fans might sometimes get confused about what to expect on the date. It’s crucial that you make it very clear when you first announce the raffle. Let them know that nothing sexual is going to happen, no physical contact, etc… unless you want that, of course. Other details that should be considered are if there’s a set day/time for the date or if it’s up in the air and if you’re paying for their airfare, hotel, food, etc. One popular option that some models decide to do is to hold the date during a porn or cam convention. This way you get to walk around with your fan at a convention where there’s lots of other models around. There’s no pressure at something like that and you’re constantly surrounded by people. This is also just a fun, unique experience for your fan to actually get to walk around with a model at a convention for models.

If you’re holding your date over Skype, it’s also very important to be clear about all the details when you first announce your raffle. Is there gonna be nudity, cam2cam, how long will the date last, can they make requests, when will it be, etc. Be upfront about everything you plan on doing during the Skype date so that your fans know what to expect before they enter. It’ll also save you the trouble of having to say no if they ask for specific things during the date that you didn’t want to do.

The main things to take out of this is to make sure you have a large enough following before holding a raffle like this with such big prizes, be sure to make every detail and rule clear before announcing your raffle, and be safe!

When it all comes down to it, this is your business. You’re the boss, which means you’re the decision-maker.

Cam Shows Your Fans Want To See

When figuring out what kinds of cam shows to offer, you should first consider your own comfort level. This is the most important factor. If you don’t enjoy what you’re doing, it’ll show in your shows. No one wants to watch a model who isn’t truly into her performances. If you think you have a good idea, you might as well give it a try. It may turn out to be genius!

With the growing number of cam sites out there right now, it may be a tough decision figuring out which site you want to cam on. Depending on your needs, wants, and the types of shows you offer, some sites are just gonna work out better for you than others.

One of the first major things to consider is if you want to work on a site that allows you to do public shows. A site like Myfreecams is a perfect example of a site that allows public shows. During a public show, you’re in general chat where everyone can see you. You generally will set a goal and everyone in the room has to collectively tip in order to help you reach your goal. Once each goal is met, you reward the entire room by removing an article of clothing or by putting on some kind of show (blow job, oil, shower, toys, etc.). On sites that offer public shows, you’ll most likely notice a lot more traffic than you would on other sites… especially while you’re actually performing a show after reaching your goal. But just because more people are in the room, that doesn’t mean that any of them are going to tip extra while you’re actually performing.

One downfall of sites that allow you to do public shows, is that your performances are more likely to get leaked and shared on the internet. Some sites, such as Streamate, don’t allow nudity in public chat. Instead, public chat is more for teasing and getting your fans to take you into a private or exclusive show. In those shows, your fan pays per minute for alone time or shared time in a small setting with you.

Group shows, called gold shows on Streamate, are also a popular option on sites like this. Basically you set a goal amount that you want to raise, the minimum amount each person has to tip in to watch the show, a countdown to make the goal, and a topic for what you’re gonna do in the show. So even though this is a group show and may have a lot of people watching, it isn’t just open to the public like it would be on Myfreecams. Instead, each person has to tip into the show in order to see it. Once the show starts, only those who tipped the minimum or higher will be taken into a private room to watch the show. This doesn’t prevent your shows from being shared on the internet, but it does lower the risk because not as many people will be viewing them since they aren’t free.

Things like the percent you keep on the site and how much traffic they get should also factor into your decision. Some sites pay as low as 30% to their models, and some pay up to 70%. But just factoring in the percentage isn’t enough. Even if you keep 70% on one site, the traffic might not be there. You may end up making a lot more money on a site that only offers their models 35%. Some sites allow you to sell videos, advertise your social media accounts, or even set up a store front.

This is also something to really consider. If you’re able to offer videos to those who tip in extra, that can definitely help increase the amount of money you make. And if you can mention your social media accounts while camming, you’re gonna be able to generate a lot of new followers every day. I’d suggest taking a look at the different sites that are out there, maybe even giving a few a try, and just see which one(s) work best for you personally.
